If you saw a man clinging haphazardly to the steel superstructure of the Broadway Bridge this weekend, about 10 feet up, camera in one hand, cars and bikes whizzing by on either side, that was me trying to get the right shot of this anti-war graffiti someone had offered up overnight on two sections of the sidewalk.

The view from Rocket, a bar and restaurant on the top floor of a new eco-deluxe building on E Burnside. Apparently there is a rooftop garden and chicken coop. The aesthetic is "space-age diner".

The view from the balcony would be even better if the enormous Clear Channel billboard just off to the left of the top photo was "removed" some night. (Hint)

Green city. This year we seem to have had close to the perfect proportion of cool spring rain and warm, even hot, sun. On late-spring on-the-cusp-of-summer days like this you almost get a sense of earthly respiration. Talk about fecundity.

Ever sniffed a wild rose?

Pictures from either end of my travels on Wednesday. Compelling N Mississippi storefronts in the late afternoon. And a couple from the Hawthorne (the oldest standing bridge in Portland) at nightfall, just as all the lights were flickering on: the 14 heading west, and a downriver shot of the eastside.

An eerie twilight on the Eastbank. I often find myself imagining what this valley was like a mere several hundred years ago in all its primeval glory: the same ocean-damp air, the same aloof clouds moving from west to east, the same rumbling faultlines, and the sounds of forest and oak savanna and river.

Crazy weather last friday. Between downpours, I rode accross the Broadway to get caffeinated at the Ecotrust building. Felt like I was always one ray of sunlight away from a good (as opposed to ho-hum) shot, though. Credit for the hand goes to the Endangered Magrish.

Hmmm.
