How about those mailboxes? I got a lot of perplexed looks from passersby as I was trying to get the best shot (I didn't). None of them seemed to understand that I was photographing what may be the only abstract expressionist work of art in Portland that resides on the backside of a U.S. Mail receptacle.
With all the fear-mongering going on in the local media about public safety on the rails, I thought I'd offer up a few photos (from yesterday) that prove that some deranged Portlanders are insisting on bringing their children along for the ride.
If you use a photo, please provide a clickable link to this site (not to the jpeg itself). Thank you!

"Ross Island, the bridge's namesake, was at one time home to a famous distillery. McArthur's Oregon Geographic Names, an indispensable work, says the island was once legendary for its "'Blue Ruin' whiskey of pioneer days . . . it was a fluid of high voltage." The distillery is gone, and now it is home to a large number of Blue Heron rookeries."
